After an exhausting but exhilarating morning wandering around MoMa - New York's Museum of Modern Art, I met my husband, John - here - at Katz's Delhi on the lower East Side. I think we sat in exactly the table that Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal sat at!

Local authorities advised that this was what we had to eat - pastrami on rye - it was great in all senses of the word!! and I'm sure it must be what Meg Ryan had. Yes, Yes Yes .....!!!

So interesting to visit a New York Trade Show - ENK Children's Club.

The merchandising over here is just astounding. Anthropologie is one of the winners for me. Every store has amazing and creative displays and every store is different. Entering a store here is more like watching a piece of theatre - with the store being the set and the staff the actors - so enticing!!

The Chelsea Antiques Garage. Kinda like Camberwell Market but so much more exotic!

An intallation of decorated coffee cups in the Art Space at the bottom of the Flatiron Building.

The windows of Marimekko. The inside of the store was amazing but they wouldn't let me take any pictures.

Outside the Marimekko Store, and opposite the Flatiron Building was a great outdoor eating area with a huge array of vendors. All the tablecloths and umbrellas with a Marimekko design!

Loved the hats in this window.

Once You Were Mine .....

Just delivered this neckpiece to e.g.etal Contemporary Jewellery Gallery for an upcoming exhibition

called “Once you were mine...” the exhibition is about how we hold on to jewellery. Even the pieces that are broken, missing the pair, or living a meaningless life at the bottom of a pile. The staff at e.g.etal chose two pieces of pre-loved jewellery from their own collections. But of course there is a story to each piece – bought as good luck charm, found in the pocket of an op shop jacket, worn on unsuccessful first date.... The concept behind this exhibition is for each piece to be given new life. Artists were asked to choose an item and transform it. Invest it with a story of your own.

I chose a Returned Services League Badge. I really loved it's shape. My piece is called "Missing" and alludes to the faceless soldiers who never returned home.

You can see the original badge here, amongst some of the other interesting bits and pieces we had to choose from.

I used the fitting on the back of the badge to make the clasp for the neckpiece.

Such a fun project!

Anna Pavlova

legendary performer / The Dying Swan / dance films

(1881-1931)

Anna Pavlova was one of the most important ballerinas of the 20th century and was a legend even during her own lifetime. She began her career dancing at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and was the first dancer to tour outside of Czarist Russia.

Unlike the more voluptuous and muscular female dancers of her generation, Pavlova was slender and fragile-looking. Her lyricism and grace garnered numerous comparisons to the 19th century ballerina Marie Taglioni. In 1907, Michel Fokine choreographedThe Dying Swan for Pavlova and it became one of her most celebrated roles.

Pavlova performed with Les Ballets Russes during its 1909 season in Paris. A few years later, she established her own company and toured the world on an ambitious and tireless schedule that helped to establish new international audiences for ballet. She also appeared in the silent film The Dumb Girl of Portici (1915). The Immortal Swan, a film released in 1956, was a compilation of clips showing Pavlova dancing in the 1920s.

Albertina Rasch (January 19, 1891 – October 2, 1967) was a naturalized American dancer and choreographer. Born in Vienna in what was then Austria-Hungary in 1891 to a family of Polish Jewish descent, Rasch studied at the Vienna State Opera Ballet school and became leading ballerina at the New York Hippodrome in 1911.

She formed her own dance troupe, The Albertina Rasch Girls, and the Rasch Ballet, starred in a number of Ziegfield productions. She also appeared at the Moulin Rouge, performed with Josephine Baker, toured with Sarah Bernhardt, and opened a Manhattan dance studio (where Bill Robinson taught tap) before adapting her classical training and techniques for the Broadway theatre and films.

Hey, have any of you heard of the fantastically talented, and extremeley beautiful Chelsea Wheatley? Well you have now!

Chelsea is an original member of Melbourne trio, The Gingers. Recently she collaborated with Chase Burns to create this short film ,Sleight Of Hand, for her new venture Bells.

The film stars Chelsea and Phoebe Waters, with soundtrack by Chelsea.

Came across these adorable creations in Mandrake and Willow - a cute little shop in Yarraville, Melbourne (worth a look if you're in the area).

Cat-Rabbit is a Tasmanian-based artist who is, according to her website, "often seen bleeding from the fingers whilst looking at kittens in a pet store window."

Each little creature is hand-made, without a pattern, so no two are the same. Imagine that, all one off originals!

You will also find some of Cat-Rabbit's illustrations in her Etsy store - adorable!

Our Favourite Tree

One of my favourite parts of the day is walking my kids to school in the morning (and that's not just because I get to leave them there until 3.30!).
The kids run ahead and knock on my mum's door. Mum whips her hair into a messy plait and she and her beautiful blue heeler, Star, join us for the walk.
Our journey takes us across the local creek, and on the way we pass this beautiful little tree.

My littlest fella and his neighbourhood pal decided to make a close inspection of the beautiful blossoms.

Such a nice way to start the day!
